Hand Beaded Fringe Earrings
I first learned to bead earrings for my wedding in 2015, despite a large Native population on Vancouver Island, I was unable to find anyone who could make me a pair in my chosen colours.
I found the process very relaxing and continue to make them for market.
Bannock Buddy Dolls
Bannock Buddies are Native-centric soft companion dolls for ages 3+. These dolls began with a pattern for a soft stuffed doll my grandmother made for me when I was 2 years old. I use synthetic suede (in different shades of brown) for the skin and acrylic wigs (usually) for the hair... I paint each little face free hand with acrylic fabric paint. As I make them each doll's wonderful little individual personality shines through. I design moccasins for each doll beaded with designs typical of his/her Nation, just like their grandma might make for them. I feel like Native centric dolls are always dressed like disney characters which is a damaging stereotype that needs to be broken.
Each incarnation of the doll is changed slightly. Amy, Brenda and Chodi were all cut at the same time so they share a long lanky body and broad jaw. Dana has caramel coloured skin, a softer jaw-line and fuller body although her legs are still very thin. I continue to struggle with redesigning the foot (clubbed in the original design) now slightly smaller but still clubbed. The dolls wear 9mo-12mo baby clothes but cannot wear shoes as yet. Bannock Buddies can be washed as you would wash a child, gently and without machines or heat.
I can only make one doll a month; they are $50 each plus shipping if necessary. Each comes with a certificate of authenticity and I hope parents will use the internet to help their child find out more about the Nation their Bannock Buddy hails from.
AMY and Brenda are sold.
The Legends of the Rainbow People books are beautiful, positive uplifting stories for young children.

I hand paint these little wooden boxes and fill them with herbal teas. As with much of my work they are sold at the summer market in our quaint and lovely tourist town.
